Visakhapatnam district emerged as the South Zone winner in the best district category for the management and conservation of water resources for 2023. 

Visakhapatnam District Collector Mr.M N. Harendhira Prasad received the award from the President Ms. Draupadi Murmu at the 5th National Water Awards-2023.

The initiatives taken up by the GVMC included renovation/rejuvenation efforts to enhance water storage capacities, Water conservation efforts by artificial recharge structures recycling & reuse of wastewater, awareness campaigns etc.

Fifth National Water Awards 2023 were awarded to 38 winners across 9 categories. Other than Visakhapatnam bagging the ‘Best District’ award, Koneru Laksmaiah Education Foundation in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh and Sri Tirumala Nagar Resident Welfare Association in Visakhapatnam stood second and third in the Best Institution category, respectively. 

Similarly, Anantapur district from AP ranked third (Joint Winner) in the Best Village Panchayat category.
