States to ramp up Andhra Pradesh’s Inland waterways Transport
Dr. Sivaprasad recently assumed charge as the Chairman of the APIWA (Andhra Pradesh Inland Waterways Authority) wherein said he will work for the development of waterways in the state and added that waterways transport is cheaper than other transport and reduces traffic on the roads.
He said that water transport would become easy by interlinking of rivers. Dr. Sivaprasad noted that if waterways transport is developed, goods can be transported with less cost and that interlinking of Krishna, Godavari, and Penna rivers will be beneficial and also attract investments.
The Chairman also added that this will generate job opportunities and recalled that foreign countries have already developed waterways in a huge manner. In addition he stated that maritime programs will be in relation to Sagarmala project.
