Top Oil&Gas cos descend on IIPE Vizag to recruit

Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) Visakhapatnam recently held its 3rd Annual Convocation in Visakhapatnam wherein the 2023 graduating batch saw 102 B Tech students graduate.

Of this 56 students from Petroleum Engineering & 46 students from Chemical Engineering, were awarded with the degrees. In addition, one Honorary Doctorate Degree was also awarded. The institute achieved close to 100% placements.

‘96% of our students were placed at various organizations while others opted for higher studies’ said Prof. Shalivahan, Director, IIPE speaking to Vizag Industrial Scan.

Some of the top Recruiters at IIPE included the likes of ONGC, Oil India, HPCL, IOCL, GAIL, HLS Asia, Shelf Drilling, Flipkart, Shell, L&T, Saint Gobain.

Delivering the convocation address, the Chief Guest Prof. Archana Bhattacharyya, Indian National Science Academy Honorary Scientist, Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Government of India congratulated all the baccalaureate students and welcomed them as the next generation Energy leaders.

Prof Archana sought students to explore innovative uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the chosen field of study as they can look forward to some challenging and exciting ties in the coming years.

She expressed joy over girl students for choosing their present field of study in the oil and energy sector and applauded the Institute for providing special scholarships for promoting girl students for joining the Institute in petroleum and energy courses.

Ms. Subhadra Jamkar, a B.Tech Chemical Engineering student received the President’s Gold medal based on her academic excellence and merit in extra-curricular activities. Two students from each branch received gold and silver medals for their academic excellence.

The medal winners included Mr. Deepit Ajit Shah, (Institute’s gold medal in Petroleum Engineering); Mr. Jefin Jose, (Institute’s Gold medal in Chemical Engineering); Mr. Harshil Padhi (Institute’s Silver Medal in Petroleum Engineering) and Mr. Suraj Kumar (Institute’s Silver Medal in Chemical Engineering).

Mr. Pattanshetti Ravi Subash, the Collector and District Magistrate, Anakapalli District was awarded with the Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) for his exemplary service to the Society and in Public Administration.

Congratulating students and their proud parents Prof. Shalivahan, highlighted some of the achievements and accomplishments of the Institute.

He informed that M/s Halliburton had donated LANDMARK software of Rs. 30 Crores (approx.) to the Institute.

Similarly it was informed that the Institute has started Industry oriented M.Tech in Energy Science & Engineering with specialization in Hydrogen and Solar Energy.
Prof Shalivahan cited that Greenko Foundation agreed to support five M. Tech Energy Science & Engineering Students for Fellowship and Internship at their plant with possible placements.

Collaborations thru MoUs
Over the year gone by the institute entered into a series of MoUs such as M/s First Climate India for cooperation in the areas covering greenhouse gases mitigation, carbon footprint and climate change studies, MoUs with (i) University of Stony Brook, USA, (ii) University of Bergen, Norway and (iii) Ufa State Petroleum Technological University. In addition, it signed a MoU with Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) to promote training for safety and skill development interaction & cooperation between two organizations. IIPE also signed a MoU with Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, MoPNG, GoI for a research project on Geoscientific Data Analysis of Kerala-Konkan Basin.
