IIPE Vizag holds its 4th convocation

Achieves close to 100% placement

The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) Visakhapatnam recently conducted its 4th Annual Convocation in Visakhapatnam. 

The institute witnessed 58 students graduate of which 26 students were from Petroleum Engineering while 32 students were from Chemical Engineering.  

Speaking to Vizag Industrial Scan Prof. Shalivahan, Director of the Institute stated that the institute had yet again achieved a placement rate of 96%. 

The event was held in the presence of the Chief Guest Prof. V.V.S.S. Sarma, FNA, FNASc, Chief Scientist, CISR-NIO Regional Centre, Visakhapatnam, Prof. Shalivahan, Director of the Institute, Mr Ram Phal Dwivedi, Registrar, IIPE, Board members, Senators, faculty, staff, students and their parents and guests. 

Awards 1st PhD. The Convocation also saw the Institute conferred its first Ph.D. Degree on Mr. Gouri Sankar Das. 

Mr Das had completed his research on the topic titled “Advanced Nano-carbons from Waste and Biomass for Renewable Energy Technologies, Green Hydrogen Production and Fabrication of Flexible Electronics” under the guidance of Dr. Kumud M. Tripathi & Prof. Somnath Ghosh

In addition Ms. Aayushi Jagat Gangwar of B.Tech Petroleum Engineering student received President’s Gold medal based on her academic excellence and merit in extra-curricular activities. Two students from each branch received gold and silver medals for their academic excellence. 

The medal winners included Mr. Abdul Rahman S., (Institute’s gold medal in Chemical Engineering); Mr. B. Abhinav Tryambakrao (Institute’s Gold medal in Petroleum Engineering); Mr. Ayush Ranjan (Institute’s Silver Medal in Chemical Engineering) and Ms. Aayushi Jagat Gangwar (Institute’s Silver Medal in Chemical Engineering). 

Delivering the convocation address, the Chief Guest Prof. V.V.S.S. Sarma spoke on the importance of energy and the imminent need to work on clean energy.

Citing the net zero carbon emissions by 2070 Prof Sarma urged the students for exploring innovative ways in energy fields for reducing global warming and for climate change otherwise he cautioned that it would have the cascading effect on the future generations. 

He stressed on ethical practices and responsibilities in the fields of energy sector as it can impact millions of lives and have long lasting consequences on environment. 

The chief guest thereby called on graduates to harness the technologies and to drive the digital transformation of the energy industry. 

‘We need to utilize our geographical area to our advantage’ said Prof Sarma. Prof. Shalivahan, Director, IIPE highlighted the achievements and accomplishments of the Institute in his report.

Research Activities 

To improve the academic and research capacity of students and faculty several cutting edge experimental facilities have been installed. In this academic year, a total of 43 publications were made as research articles in Journals of repute. 

The Institute has presently, 18 ongoing research projects with a total outlay of Rs. 45.20 Crores. During the year 2023-24, 12 projects with an amount of Rs. 38.64 Crores have been sanctioned to the faculty by various research sponsoring agencies which includes a research project from NTPC for installing a Green Hydrogen Plant for 1 TPD hydrogen generation from sea water.
