The government of Andhra Pradesh has inked two MoUs in the green skilling space to bridge the employability gap in the renewable sector in India.
Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and the Suzlon Group recently signed a MoU to launch India’s largest green skill development program.
This pioneering program aims to create a future-ready workforce by increasing green job opportunities and addressing the skill gap in renewable energy.
Over the next four years, the program will offer training to 12,000 youth, including at least 3,000 women, in specialised areas of wind power manufacturing, such as Electrical, Mechanical, Blade Technology, Material Management, Operations & Maintenance, and Land & Liasoning.
Furthermore, Suzlon will create a structured curriculum for ITI, Diploma, and degree engineering colleges and forge university partnerships to integrate globally recognised content and advanced research in the wind energy industry.
“This program will help a lot of underserved families and contribute to strengthening India’s talent position in the renewable energy sector” said Mr Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT & Human Resources Development.
Also commenting on the MoU Mr JP Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer, Suzlon Group said “With this strategic initiative, we aim to position Andhra Pradesh as a talent export hub for the renewable energy sector, empowering the state to lead the way in shaping a sustainable future.”
Similarly APSSDC also signed a key agreement with Swaniti Initiative for the development of green skilling in the state.
Swaniti Initiative, a prominent social organization, improves civil services in the state and formulates necessary policies for the development of marginalized groups.
As per this agreement, Swaniti Initiative will prepare a draft skill development strategy for the renewable energy sector in the next 4 months and finalize the action plan required for the implementation of the strategy.
For this, a skill landscape assessment will be conducted for the renewable energy sector, prepare reports in consultation with key stakeholders (Industry, Industry Associations, Cluster Associations, Training Institutions – ITIs, VTC, Skill Universities, Engineering Colleges etc.).
As per the MoU some of the deliverables of Swaniti Initiative will include conducting a baseline survey to assess the potential for green job creation in Anantapur, Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool and Nellore, and also assess the green energy industry and related skill opportunities in Kakinada, Godavari and Vizag, Prepare future development projections outlining the responsibilities of the government in line with the growing population, Identify the extent of human resource required in line with the development in the green skilling sector and other such works.
