State-owned companies CIL and Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Ltd. are among those selected to receive financial incentives for coal gasification projects. This incentive scheme, backed by a substantial financial commitment of Rs 8,500 crore, is part of India’s broader strategy to achieve 100 million tonnes (MT) of coal gasification by 2030.

The Ministry of Coal has reached a significant milestone in its ambitious coal gasification program by announcing the selected applicants under Categories I and III of the scheme. This development reinforces the government’s commitment to promoting a cleaner and more sustainable coal future for India.

The Coal Gasification Incentive Scheme is expected to drive innovation in clean coal technologies and create thousands of new jobs, contributing significantly to India’s transition to a clean energy future. The selected applicants for the financial incentive are under categories 1 and 3: Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Ltd, Coal India Limited (for CIL GAIL Consortium), Coal India Ltd, and New Era Cleantech Solution Pvt Ltd,” the coal ministry said in a statement.

The ministry launched a financial incentive scheme with an outlay of Rs 8,500 crore, approved by the Cabinet to promote coal and lignite gasification projects. “The scheme launched under three categories, has garnered strong interest from industry players, with five applications received under Categories I and III,” the statement added.
