In a significant development that could give an impetus to Kakinada’s maritime domain, well known shipping company Sravan Shipping recently opened a container freight station in Kakinada which apparently is also the district’s first CFS.
To mark the occasion Assistant Commissioner Customs (Kakinada) Mr. K Ravi Kumar along with Kakinada Sea Port Chief Operating Officer Mr. Muralidhar inaugurated the station and said that Kakinada would grow further with the setting up of the new CFS by Sravan Shipping.
Mr Kumar noted that since this CFS is near to Kakinada Port traders would no longer need to go to Chennai and Vizag for exports. Although the container market is still pretty nascent in Kakinada some of the commodities the new CFS will be used for are Aqua, Pharma, Rice and Raw Sugar.
Reminiscing on the new CFS Sravan Shipping’s Group MD Mr. G Sambasiva Rao said the first CFS by Sravan Shipping was set up in 2004 in Visakhapatnam in combined Andhra Pradesh and the second in 2015 near Gangavaram Port in Vizag,
This is our 3rd CFS he said adding that this CFS can handle about 3,000 containers at once. Mr Sambasiva Rao also stated that with this new CFS small-scale companies can explore many export opportunities thereby creating employment. There are said to be about 32 CFSs in Chennai and 40 in Mumbai.
