Andhra & Telangana income Tax collections up 21%

Both the Telugu speaking states have registered a combined growth of 21% in their income tax collections i.e. together in corporate and income tax for the first 9 months of the current fiscal.

‘Rupees One lakh crore in taxes have been collected from this region and we aim to collect Rs 2 lakh crores per year in successive years’ said Ms Mitali Madhusmitha, Principal CCIT(AP&TS) while inaugurating the tax payer’s hub programme in Visakha- patnam recently.

Identifying the Income Tax Department (ITD) as a unique department in the country for giving refunds in the quickest time she said that providing tax payers services to the citizens and ensuring tax compliance are the two main pillars of the tax administration. 

It was further informed that the income tax department, AP&TS has verified the undue/wrongful claims of deductions and exemptions and collected substantial amount taxes from  wrongful claim of refunds which is much higher than National Average.

Also addressing the gathering Mr Asit Kumar Mohapatra, IRS, CCIT, Visakhapatnam noted that the city of destiny Visakhapatnam has many Public Sector Undertaking (PSUs), there by Individual tax payers are the main source of budget collection for this Region. 

Stating that tax payer is the nation builder he thanked the honest taxpayers of this region.

Mr Rajiv Kumar Singh, IRS, Pr.CIT-1, Visakhapa- tnam said that PCIT-1, Visakhapatnam has given record amount of refunds of Rs.1901 Crore for the year ended 31st December 2023. 

He further added that for  providing better tax services and providing awareness/education on the due claim of deductions and exemptions, the ITD, Visakhapatnam has organized more than 50 outreach programmes in various PSUs, Institutes, Government organizations/Departments and private organizations.

In addition Mr Singh shared information directives to tax payers for better claim of deductions/exemptions. 

Earlier Ms Archinachaudhary IRS Principal DGIT(Admin&TPS) stated that the department has recorded a surge in filing of income tax returns across the country and that it has set a new record of 8.18 crores of ITRs for AY 2023-24 filed upto Dec 31st 2024.

Mr M.Bhupal Reddy, IRS, Pr.CCIT(Odhisa) stated that the department has revolutionary transformed from the status of enforcement agency to Tax Payer Service (TPS) provider.
