Making e-waste Count

Published on

When Venkatesh was pursuing his engineering course and was asked to do a project in his final year, he witnessed something very intriguing. He observed that a large amount of electronic waste is produced annually in engineering colleges.

That is when a thought flashed, and Venkatesh started to work on a project report which included collecting e-waste from Engineering colleges and refurbishing them which can further be utilized in product development and skill development.

This project later turned into a venture called ‘Electro Pro’ – an electronic product development & manufacturing company which was founded in 2016.

The startup offers services like E-waste Refurbishing, Robotics, Embedded systems; Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Home and Industrial Automation.

“We collect e-waste from the community as well as from the educational Institutions and dump it in our regional plants in Chinthalamori Village, AP. We then segregate the e-waste into Useful, Semi-useful and useless,” shared Venkatesh.

‘We get E-waste from Engineering colleges for free and offer them a E-waste Refurbishing club at campus and Train 30 to 40 Students for free of cost in Robotics, IOT and Embedded domains’ noted the founder.

Currently, they operate in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, and Chennai  and also have presence in Australia, Ghana, and Togo.

Useful components are used to make Prototypes for the problem statements observed in rural areas while Semi-useful are used in skill development to train local graduates and undergraduates.

Useless components are used to make technology charts and sent to Govt schools and colleges to create Technology Awareness Program.

They also establish PROLAB (Robotic Labs) in Govt Schools to promote STEM and Robotics to the rural children.

Venkatesh added, “We have signed MOUs with 20 Engineering colleges, established 10 e-waste refurbishing clubs and 5 Robotic labs. We generate revenue from the products we make which are then sold to local customers”
