Major port, Visakhapatnam Port Authority continued to be India’s favourite seafood export port. Out of the total seafood exports of FY 24 valued at USD 7.38 billion a significant USD 2.19 billion worth of seafoods were exported out of Visakhapatnam port thereby contributing a 29.72% share.
VPA exported an impressive 314,199 tonnes of seafoods valued at over USD 2 billion. A significant factor contributing to Visakhapatnam Port’s top ranking is Andhra Pradesh’s thriving aquaculture industry, particularly its high production of Vanammei shrimp varieties.
Additionally, seafood exports from Odisha have also bolstered Visakhapatnam Port’s leading position.
Following Visakhapatnam, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) came in a distant 2nd and handled 240,253 tonnes of seafood valued at USD 779.49 million.
VPA had secured the 4th rank among all major ports in India and made a significant leap to 3rd place in the first two months of FY 2024-25, reflecting a 13.5% growth in cargo.
