Emphasising the omnipresent role of technology in today’s day-to-day life, STPI’s Director general, Mr Arvind Kumar stated that the government of India has an unequivocal focus on technology and innovations. ‘Leaders of the next generation will be those who are leaders in technology’ opined Mr Arvind Kumar speaking at CII and STPI’s IT conference on “Vizag the Next Tech Hub of India”.

He said that for the country to achieve the USD 5 trillion economy goal, tech innovation will play a key role and that the government of India has already undertaken numerous initiatives in this space.

‘We have now become a producer of technology and not just a consumer’ said STPI’s director general.

Mr Kumar further added that with the amount of rich data we possess it is imperative that we upskill and reskill our manpower for which he said many changes need to be brought in both at the industry and academia level.

‘In the software product development space India only does a mere USD 13 billion wherein the market is USD 1 trillion thus we have an enormous amount to grow’ Mr Arvind Kumar said. It was informed that a target of USD 70-80 billion has been set for FY 26.

Accelerating Tech in Vizag

Identifying Vizag to be a fast growing and dynamic city STPI’s director general said that the city has a major role in realising this goal.

‘We are seeing a trend wherein many IT companies are actively looking at opening software services operations in tier 2-3 cities rather than in tier 1 cities. Tier 2-3 cities are becoming the new software services centres while tier 1 cities are becoming more focused on software development’ informed Mr Arvind Kumar. He therefore cited STPI and RINL’s CoE in Vizag which he said will play a substantial role in providing Industry 4.0 technologies and informed that the CoE has already received over 200 applications for the initial startup challenge launched by the CoE.

STPI’s Director/Scientist G, Mr CVD Ramprasad, and STPI’s Additional director & office in charge at Vizag Dr Suresh Batha also participated in the conference.
