VASSIWA-MSME DI hold vendor Development Meet

PSUs pledge support to Micro & Small Enterprises

The MSME development and facilitation centre at Visakhapatnam in association with VASSIWA recently held their annual vendor development cum buyer-seller meet with PSUs and MSMEs.

Over 50 MSMEs exhibited their various products and services over the 2 day event wherein the implementation of the public procurement policy was also stressed.

As per the public procurement policy every Central Ministry /Department / PSUs shall set an annual target for 25% procurement from MSE Sector. A sub-target of 4% out of 25% target of annual procurement is earmarked for procurement from MSEs owned by SC/ST entrepreneurs.

Senior representatives from various PSUs addressed the gathering and assured their support in complying with the public procurement policy.

‘RINL has been extending significant support to micro and small enterprises’ said Mr DK Mohanty, Director (Commercial) RINL, participating as chief guest at the inaugural session.

Mr Mohanty informed that in FY22 out of a total MSME potential procurement of Rs 3246 crores Rs 60 crores was procured from Local MSEs and over Rs 900 crores from MSMEs across India.

And for the current financial year 2022-23, RINL has set the target procurement from MSEs as 31.80% of total procurement.

‘Till Dec ’22, RINL MSE procurement is 40.42% of total procurement and RINL MSE procurement is expected to be above 40% for FY 22-23.

Further Rs.51.26 Cr worth of material was procured by Material Management Department of RINL, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in the current financial year from Local MSEs’ highlighted the Director commercial RINL.

Speaking on Women and SC/ST MSEs he said that 16 Vendor Registration applications pertaining to Women MSEs & 8 Vendor Registration applications pertaining to SC/ST MSEs are under Process for registration.

Reiterating RINL’s endeavour to support and encourage the local MSEs he advised local MSEs to establish themselves as sources of supply for materials such as Thermocouple Tips , Lollypop Samplers , Probes , Fasteners, Ferro Alloys, Refractories, chemicals etc.  Mr Mohanty also requested local MSEs to quote reasonable prices and delivery schedules to foster long term business relationships with RINL.

Mr LS Rao, Chief General Manager, Operations and Maintenance, Vizag-Secunderabad LPG pipeline, GAIL informed that 55 contracts amounting to Rs 25 crores were given to MSMEs.

Lauding the event VASSIWA’s president Mr Balaji termed this to be a great opportunity for MSMEs to showcase their products to PSUs in this region.

‘This is a fantastic opportunity for MSMEs to display their products to senior people of PSUs and have a chance to interact with them one on one’ he said.

Concurred Mr Chandrasekhar Additional Director MSME, DI and said ‘Lot of times buyers are not aware that the products they need are available in their same town. So these meets are a win-win for both PSUs and MSMEs’.

Industry leaders also urged MSMEs to become more competitive in terms of pricing, enhance quality and look at exports.

‘MSMEs need to look at global markets and start exporting. There is huge potential in exports. VPA and Gangavaram combined handle close to 100MTPA of cargo annually and this is only set to further increase in the times ahead’ said Mr G Sambasiva Rao, past president AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry federation and MD Sravan Shipping.

He also highlighted the need for an exclusive park for women entrepreneurs in the region which could better assist them in their business growth.

PSUs such as HPCL, GAIL, NTPC, BHEL, HSL, RINL, OIL India, ONGC, BDL and others participated in the meet.
