Two new Star Hotels on the anvil
Temple town Tirupati which sees an influx of tourists visiting the holy abode of Tirumala is undertaking a slew of measures to make the district an attractive tourist spot not only for religious tourism but also for leisure tourism.
Tirupati sees an average daily foot fall of 1 lakh people, majority of who go to Tirumala for Darshan but are said to leave the region within 18 hours of their darshan.
In order to capitalize on this large set of tourists and to have Tourists stay longer in this blessed city the district administration has been gearing up to highlight the region’s picturesque sights and sounds which it hopes will keep visitors in Tirupati district for at least 2-3 days.
‘We are fortunate as a district that we get a myriad number of tourists visiting Tirumala. We want these tourists to stay longer in our district and also look at Leisure tourism as part of their overall religious visit’ said Tirupati’s young district collector, Dr Venkateswar, IAS speaking exclusively to Vizag Industrial Scan.
From beaches to lush green forest covers the region has a plethora of tourist attractions. ‘Many aren’t aware that we have 75 kms of coastline, lush green forest covers, waterfalls, Pulicat lake, a bird sanctuary, nocturnal animals, white tiger safari etc.
We are eager to attract tourists in the age group of 18-35 too’ informed the district collector. In fact the administration is organizing a Flamingo festival in January 2025 which will attract a large number of bird watchers, tourists and environmentalists.
Upcoming Star Hotels
With the huge tourist inflows that Tirupati receives the city is also gearing up for the opening of a slew of new star category hotels. ‘I am happy to inform you that in the next 3-4 months you shall see two new star category hotels open their doors.
Lemon Tree and Marriott are slated for inauguration. With these 2 new hotels there will be an additional 400 keys of star room categories’ informed Dr Venkateswar.
He further informed that the Oberoi group has started construction on its Rs 900 crore seven star hotel which shall be a 120 room property.
In addition Lulu group, Rahejas and Taj are also said to be mulling plans for opening star hotels in the district.
