SCR registers best-ever performance in Freight Business

South Central Railway registered its best-ever performance in freight business during the last financial year 2023-24, marked by record-breaking achievement in both Originating Loading and Earnings.

The Zone surpassed the 140 MTs mark in originating freight loading for the first time in its history, by achieving 141.117 MTs in originating freight loading, which is 8.785 MTs higher than the last year.

Similarly, in terms of earnings, the Zone surpassed Rs. 13,000 crs mark for the first time in terms of originating freight revenue, by achieving Rs.  13,438.76 crs in FY 2023-24, which is Rs. 506 crs higher than the last year.

SCR incremental loading during the last financial year contributed to nearly 11.18% overall incremental loading of Indian Railways during FY 2023-24, stated a press release.

The buoyancy in the Zone’s loading was witnessed across all commodity streams. Coal, the major commodity in the Zones freight basket, contributed 70.522 MTs of loading during FY 2023-24 (vs 67.18 MTs in FY 22-23).

Cement (along with Clinker) was the second largest commodity contributing 36.117 MTs in loading in FY 2023-24 (vs 34.855 MTs in FY 22-23). Other major commodities also displayed remarkable growth in loading over the previous year. 

These include: Fertilisers (7.402 MTs vs 6.511 MTs), Foodgrains (7.388 MTs vs 7.058 MTs), Raw Material for Steel Plants (4.852 MTs vs 4.504 MTs), Iron Ore (3.743 MTs vs 1.561 MTs), Containers (2.392 MTs vs 2.189 MTs), POL (1.095 MTs vs 0.515 MTs) and other goods (7.606 MTs vs 7.959 MTs), the release added. 

The General Manager appreciated the efforts of the Operations and Commercial team on this stupendous achievement and advised them to maintain the same tempo in the current financial year.
