Calls for implementing Gati Shakti

The Special Secretary (Logistics), DPIIT Ms. Sumita Dawra recently reviewed the progress of Syama Prasad Mookerjee (SPM) Port & Haldia Dock Complex and emphasized the adoption of PM GatiShakti.

She stressed Gati Shakti for planning port connectivity, improvements in regional connectivity, measures needed to improve port performance, and the use of digital systems such as the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) and Logistics Data Bank(LDB).

Reviewing the progress of the port, SMP Kolkata gave a detailed presentation on some of the works being undertaken at the port.

The port management informed her that the New alignment from State Highway (i.e. from Balagarh-to-Balagarh Island) to  NH 2 is needed, to reduce city congestion.

They proposed upgradation for improving connectivity to (a) Diamond Harbour, (b) Falta SEZ, (c)to Raichak, etc.  

Connectivity from Kolkata Port to AshugunjPort in Bangladesh for better access, to the North East Region (NER), to enhance connectivity which will ease the movement of bulk commodities, and reduce travel time and logistics costs. 

Freight movement from Kolkata and Haldia port to Dacca is going on & trial movement of bulk commodities to NER has been established between Kolkata port and Sittwe port (Myanmar).

During the review, she interacted with Chairman of SPM Port Mr.Rathendra Raman, Dy Chairman, Mr. Samrat Rahi and Advisor from MoPSW, Mr. H.N. Aswath.
