8 teams take part in an enthralling tournament
Andhra Pradesh’s elite golf club, the east point golf club (EPGC) recently held the closing ceremony of the 4th edition of the Vizag Golf League (VGL) 2024 which was played over a six-week schedule.
96 players across eight teams took active part in this coveted event providing competitive golfing experience to EPGC Members.
The teams were divided into three handicap categories (Category 1: 0-14; Category 2: 15-18 and Category 3: 19-24 with 2/3rd Handicap and was played in two different formats (4 ball better ball match play and singles match play) and in 3 stages-League stage, Semi-Finals, Finals.
The League concluded with a final Play-off round and a Gala Prize Distribution Event.
Team Sagi’s Visalakshi Royals owned by Mr SVR Raju and captained by Cdr Rajesh Nair, emerged as the winner of the tournament while SRK eagles owned by Mr MSN Raju and captained by Mr Raghu came in as runners up.
The winning team took home a prize money of Rs 4 lakhs while the runner up team bagged Rs 2.5 lakhs in prize money.
The most valuable player (MVP) was awarded to Cdr Rajesh Nair second year in a row.
EPGC’s secretary, Mr MSN Raju lauded all the participating teams and players for an exciting and fun filled tournament.
Along with the secretary the prize distribution ceremony was presented by EPGC’s President, Vice Admiral G Srinivasan AVSM, VSM, Vice President Cmde GV Babu (Retd.), Treasurer Mr P Rama Krishna Rao and committee members Mr SVH Rajendra, Mr T Krishnam Raju and Mr Vinay Sehgal .
Promoting Golf in AP
EPGC had in October this year held the prestigious PGTI which was attended by Andhra Pradesh’s minister for Tourism Culture & Cinematography, Mr Kandula Durgesh.
Appreciating EPGC’s efforts in promoting golf, the tourism minister had said that the government is keen on promoting golf across the state of AP and intends to build state of the art golf courses in AP.
In this regard PGTI’s president and cricketing legend Mr Kapil Dev had also called upon the chief minister Mr N Chandrababu Naidu recently to explore ways of promoting golf in the state wherein the CM assured them of full government support.
