Emphasising food safety

In order to enhance food safety & hygiene of road side eateries of Visakhapatnam GVMC in association with The Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently conducted an awareness programme as part of Eco Vizag.

Addressing the gathering GVMC Commissioner, Mr. Saikanth Varma explained about the importance of Food Safety and Hygiene, its implications on public health and safety the participants included officials from the GVMC including the Zonal Commissioners, Chief Medical officer of Health, Ward secretaries, Sanitary Inspectors along with 100 street vendors and Retails food outlet owners and Midlevel restaurants’ owners. 

At a press meet, Dr. Naresh Kumar, Chief Medical Officer GVMC informed the gathering that the awareness programme was essential for cities like Visakhapatnam where stakeholders must be aware of food safety norms. 

VCCI has arranged for experts from SHAW Hotels & Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd., Mumbai consultants in the field of food safety, hygiene, and customer satisfaction who enlightened the stake holders about various aspects-needed for food safety and hygiene, possible reasons for shortcomings/lapses, consequences of the same and measures to avoid food contamination etc.
