Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam has been awarded the prestigious CNS Rolling Trophy for Best Green Practices, recognising its outstanding commitment to sustainable industrial operations and environmental stewardship.

The trophy was presented by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff to Rear Admiral RS Dhaliwal, Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard, Vizag, during the recently held Naval Investiture Ceremony at Mumbai.

The dockyard has set a benchmark through the comprehensive implementation of ISO-certified management systems, robust hazardous waste management and the operationalisation of advanced Effluent Treatment and Sewage Treatment Plants.

Focused efforts towards carbon footprint reduction, including sustainability energy audits and a 12.3% reduction in fossil fuel consumption over the past three years, highlight its progressive approach.

Green mobility initiatives such as battery-operated transport, EV charging facilities and a public bicycle sharing system, along with large-scale replacements of lights by LED technology and renewable energy generation-accounting for more than 7 % of total power consumption-underscore its commitment to energy efficiency.

Additional measures including rainwater harvesting, bio-gas plants, solar water heaters and integrated waste management further strengthen its environmental framework.

Compliance with directives such as the ban on single-use plastics, coupled with continuous awareness programmes, harbour cleanliness drives, and green landscaping initiatives, reflect a holistic approach.

This achievement exemplifies leadership, innovation and the Indian Navy’s unwavering resolve towards sustainable development.
