IIPE VISAKHAPATNAM awards 51 degrees at 5TH CONVOCATION

The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam today held its 5th Annual Convocation in Visakhapatnam.

The event was attended by Mr Arun Misra, CEO & Whole-Time Director of Hindustan Zinc Ltd., who was the chief guest of the event along with Prof. P.K. Banik, President, Board of Governors, IIPE Prof. Shalivahan, Director, IIPE, Mr Ram Phal Dwivedi, Registrar, members of the Board of Governors and Senate, faculty, staff, students, parents, and guests.

The convocation witnessed 51 degrees awarded, including 2 Ph.D.15 M.Sc. in Applied Geologyand 34 B.Tech degrees (8 in Petroleum Engineering and 26 in Chemical Engineering).

Mr. Albert Izack Mohanty (B.Tech. Chemical Engineering) was awarded the President’s Gold Medal for academic excellence and all-round merit.

Addressing the gathering Prof. Shalivahan, highlighted the Institute’s major milestones, including the launch of the Rs. 150+ Cr IIPEMagnivia Business & Energy Research Park, the successful hosting of India’s first International Conference on Natural Hydrogenand receiving the Energy Excellence Award 2025 from CHEMTECH Foundation.

He informed of IIPE’s growing international footprint, with 15% international projects and global electives, establishing it as a rising thought leader in the energy domain.

Prof. Paritosh K. Banik, President, BoG, in his address emphasized India’s need for a green energy transition and IIPE’s pivotal role in driving sustainable innovation. He urged graduates to work with industry and policy stakeholders to address critical energy challenges.

Giving the keynote address Mr Misraencouraged students to stay curious, think differently, and build for the long term. Citing examples from Hindustan Zinc’s innovation journey, he emphasized the role of technologies like AI and hydrogen in shaping a sustainable energy future.

Gold and Silver medals Presented

B.Tech. Chemical Engineering student Mr. Ahjoliya Nandish Amit Kumar was given Gold medal while Mr. Ayush Gupta given Silver medal.

Similarly, B.Tech Petroleum Engineering student Mr. Biswajit Pati was given Gold medal while Mr. Bokam Srirama Manikanta Ganesh was given Silver medal.

In addition M.Sc. Applied Geology student Mr. Debasis Sahu got a Gold medal and Ms. Sujata Majhi got Silver medal.

A new medal recognizing gender diversity, Outstanding Girl Student Medal, was introduced and awarded to Ms. Sujata Majhi of M.Sc. Applied Geology.

The ceremony concluded with a formal declaration of the convocation’s closure by the Director and President of the Board of Governors.
