AP’s new Defence Policy set to garner big investments: BJP State Prez

Andhra Pradesh’s BJP State president Mr PVN Madhav has hailed the TDP led NDA government in the state for coming out with an effective and forward-looking aerospace and defence policy.

Addressing the gathering on the 3rd and final day of the Swaraksha Mahaotsav 2025 conference organised by TPCGSI and Vizag Industrial Scan as Industry partner Mr Madhav said that Andhra Pradesh’s aerospace and defence policy is robust and aims to make AP as a leading defence hub in the country.

The state’s new defence policy puts significant thrust on decentralizing manufacturing clusters across the state and has thus assigned region specific clusters for defence manufacturing.

These clusters include a Naval Cluster over 3,000 acres between Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam, a Missile & Ammunition Cluster over 3,000 acres at Jaggaiahpet in NTR district, an Unmanned Systems Cluster over 3,000 acres at Orvakal in Kurnool district, aerospace & Electronics Clusters spread over 4,000–5,000 acres between Madakasira and Lepakshi in Anantapur district and an Aircraft Component Manufacturing Cluster over 4,000 acres at Donakonda in Prakasam district.

All in all, AP’s defence policy aims to attract over Rs 1 lakh crore investments over the next 5 years.

“You shall see a lot of defence companies come and invest in AP. Similarly, many semiconductor and electronic companies are setting up in the state,” mentioned Mr Madhav.

With the presence of crucial defence establishments like the Eastern Naval command, Hindustan Shipyard Limited, NTSL the BJP State president also highlighted Vizag’s significant and strategic role in India’s overall defence play.

Industry Led Advise

He further appreciated the government for roping in highly respected & admired stalwarts from the Defence and space field to help the state government take a quantum leap in this sector.

“The appointment of Dr G Satheesh Reddy former DRDO chairman along with Dr. Sreedhara Panicker Somanath, former Chairman of ISRO, as Honorary Advisors to the state government for Defence and Aerospace and Space Technology respectively is testament to the government’s intention to position AP as a major defence and space hub” opined Mr Madhav.

Surging Defence Exports

Underscoring the country’s Atmanirbhar mission, Mr Madhav lauded PM Modi for his leadership in making India’s Defence sector self-reliant.

“Under the dynamic leadership of our Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi India’s defence sector has seen phenomenal growth over the past decade or so. From boosting indigenous manufacturing to surging defence exports, we have indeed come a long way,” said Mr Madhav.

He In fact went on to state that India shall in 10 years be also exporting submarines.

Noting India’s defence budget for FY 26 to be Rs 6.81 lakh crore, a 9.5% increase from the previous year, he laid emphasis on further modernization and indigenisation in defence manufacturing.

Centre Fully Committed to AP

The BJP’s state president also highlighted the crucial role being played by the centre in providing financial assistance for large infrastructure projects for AP both in the defence and other sectors.

“Under the stewardship of Prime Minister Mr Modi, the state of Andhra Pradesh is being given utmost importance both in terms of new projects and financial assistance. Centre is fully committed to the overall development of the state of Andhra Pradesh,” said Mr Madhav.
