Over 7 lakh houses under construction
Andhra Pradesh’s Special Principal Secretary of the State Housing Department, Mr. Ajay Jain, has stated that the state government is committed to providing affordable housing to all eligible sections of the state by 2029 and is also providing housing plots to the eligible ones.
Addressing a recent meeting in Vijayawada on the schemes being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Andhra Pradesh Mr Jain explained that the state government is giving top priority to housing construction and has proposed to complete the construction of 7.32 lakh houses currently under construction by March 2026.
He said that the Centre and the state government will jointly complete the construction of houses and that the government has decided to provide 3 cents of land in rural areas and 2 cents in urban areas free of cost to eligible beneficiaries who do not have houses.
Mr Jain further opined that with the construction of houses Human resource development will also take place.
‘Training is being provided to the workers who undertake the construction of houses. The government is working with PM Suryagarh to provide energy-efficient appliances to the houses for solar rooftops on the houses’ Mr. Jain said.

Shiva Prasad, Habitat for Humanity India National Director Mr. Anand Bolimera, Director Mr. Justin Jebakumar, State Housing Authority Chief Engineer Mr. Padmanabhaya, Superintendent Engineers Mr. Jayaramachari, Mr. Krishnaiah and State Housing Authority officials participated.
