AP Govt. committed to developing golf courses across AP: Tourism Minister

Lauds EPGC for successfully hosting Vizag Open 2024

Highlighting the elite sport of golf and its significance in attracting tourists, Andhra Pradesh’s minister for Tourism Culture & Cinematography, Mr Kandula Durgesh stated that the government of Andhra Pradesh under the leadership of Mr N Chandrababu Naidu is committed to developing world class golf courses across the state of AP.

The minister made this announcement at the Vizag Open 2024 event held at east point golf club (EPGC) wherein he attended as chief guest.

‘Under the current government I want to assure you my government’s full support to the golfing fraternity in the state and our intention of building similar world class courses like the East point golf club (EPGC) across the state. We are also planning for a world class golf course in Amaravati’ informed Mr Durgesh.

The minister heaped praises on EPGC’s vast achievements over the years and for being recognized as one of the most coveted golf courses in India. 

‘This is the only golf course in AP to have such high standards and in fact it is a matter of pride for Andhra Pradesh to have a course like EPGC’ said the tourism minister.

Mr Durgesh also lauded EPGC’s secretary, Mr MSN Raju for his leadership in bringing much needed recognition to EPGC and bringing the PGTI event to Vizag.

Hosting a PGTI tournament is a great honour for our club. This prestigious event showcases the highest level of professional golf in India, attracting top players from across the country and fifteen other nations. EPGC today ranks No 1 in South India and 5th across India’ informed Mr MSN Raju addressing the gathering on the final day of Vizag open 2024 which had a total prize purse for the event of Rs 1 crore.

Similarly, PGTI’s CEO, Mr. Uttam Singh Mundy, while speaking to Vizag Industrial Scan said ‘It has been a fantastic week for golf and kudos to the entire EPGC team led by Mr MSN Raju and his committee members for successfully hosting this tournament. The golf course has been in fantastic shape as always. We thank East Point Golf Club and all our event partners for supporting our efforts in staging this event.’

Chandigarh’s Mr Angad Cheema emerged as the winner to clinch the title of Vizag Open 2024 with a nail-biting finish winning a cash prize of Rs Fifteen lakhs.

Mr Cheema (69-61-70-68), the overnight leader by three shots, struck a three-under 68 in the final round to end up with a tournament total of 16-under 268. 

The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) is the official sanctioning body of professional golf in India. Vizag open 2024 was supported by the host venue East Point Golf Club and Associate Partners Alwar Das Group, SRK Infra, Vijaynagar Biotech Pvt Ltd and SLV Ventures.

EPGC’s Vice President Cmde GV Babu, Treasurer Mr P Rama Krishna Rao along with committee members Mr SVH Rajendra, Mr T Krishnam Raju, Mr Vinay Sehgal, Mr KSRK Raju also participated in the prize distribution ceremony.
