Urges stakeholders to keep city clean
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has taken a hard stand against people misusing public property by way of scribbling/writings or putting up unauthorized posters on city walls, electricity poles, transformers, road dividers, dustbins etc.
The city’s chief city planner Mr. Suresh Kumar on the instructions of GVMC Commissioner Mr. Saikanth Verma had recently called for a meeting with the members of the Printing Press Association of Visakhapatnam along with religious organizations and members of the Educational Institutes.
He informed that stern action would be taken against those obstructing the beautification of the city under the 1997 Act and violators will be fined up to Rs 1 lakh as per the law.
Emphasising that GVMC spends crores of rupees on the city’s beautification he said that Visakhapatnam is frequently cited by international visitors as a model of cleanliness and aesthetic appeal and that these unlawful activities tarnish the city’s reputation.
He therefore appealed to the stakeholders to help in halting rampant placement of posters, paintings, writings, informal hoardings, flexi banners and writings by business, religious, education and entertainment-related organisations on public property which severely undermine GVMC’s efforts in keeping the city clean and beautiful.
He similarly, also highlighted the need to prevent posting of contact numbers of septic cleaning services on electrical poles.
The Chief City Planner supported alternative advertisement methods such as FM radios, cable TVs, hoardings of private agencies, film slides, newspapers and social media etc.
He urged printing press owners, educational institutions, religious organizations and other business establishments to contribute to the development of Visakhapatnam by refraining from unauthorised postings.
And in order to ensure accountability he advised printers to include their phone numbers and company names on their printed materials.CP Dora, DCP Padmaja, DCPL ACPs, TPOs, Ward Planning Secretaries and others participated in this meeting.
