Registers highest ever cargo in FY 24

Visakhapatnam Port Authority has created a new record in its cargo handling. The port led under the chairmanship of Dr. M. Angamuthu, IAS handled the highest ever cargo in the port’s over 90 year history.

VPA handled more than 80 MMTPA (80.05 MMTPA as on 27-03-2024) cargo, four days earlier to the fiscal ending FY24. 

With this the port duly surpassed its previous record cargo throughput of 73.75 MMTPA during the FY 2022-2023 said VPA in a press release.

Some of the factors which contributed to this record volumes included – POL & Crude which saw volumes up by 27%, iron ore up by 12%; fertilizer volume up by 6%. 

In addition the port handled more number of baby cape vessels upto 43 mts beam registering a growth of 35% in number of vessels handled.

In FY 24 VPA also registered monthly Highest Tonnage cargo handling for the months of May, June, October 2023 and January -2024.

It witnessed a record of highest day cargo volume of 4,03,978 Million Tonnes in 24 hrs on 19th January-2024, duly surpassing the previous highest Day handling of 4,01,875 Million Tonnes achieved on 17th June – 2023. Key Performance Indicators (KPI) also shown significant improvement – 68% improvement in Pre-berthing detention, 10% improvement in TRT & OSBD, and 8% improvement in Idle time at berth.Chairperson appreciated the Traffic Manager and his team for their varied achievements and urged Visakhapatnam Port Authority team to continue on the same spirit and put best efforts to scale new heights in future also.
