Vizag airport takes measures for passenger convenience

DigiYatra to soon be available at Airport

With the runway resurfacing work at Visakhapatnam international airport now being completed, operations have returned to the usual beginning April 1st

Along with extended flight timings there are other facilities that are being added for passenger convenience. 

To provide a complete baggage processing and screening mechanism at the Vizag airport, the In-line Hold Baggage Handling System (ILHBS) service will be added. The ILHBS will ensure an efficient check-in process for the passengers. 

Similarly to reduce congestion in the terminal, the Security hold area on the first floor is being expanded. In addition new entry & exit lanes will be added to segregate the arrival and departure movement of vehicles at the airport. 

The washrooms at the arrival have also been renovated. Digi yatra service will soon be made available to passengers at the Vizag airport.

‘With Digi Yatra, passengers will be automatically cleared based on facial recognition system at all the checkpoints. 

Hence, it will improve the experience of passengers as they need not show their boarding pass at multiple entry points said Visakhapatnam’s Airport Director Mr S Raja Reddy speaking to Vizag Industrial Scan.

Concurred APATA spokesperson Dr K Kumar Raja and said, “Once operational the Digi Yatra service especially for frequent travellers will be seamless and hassle-free”. 

Dr Kumar Raja however said that along with other facilities being improvised, more food stalls need to be added in the airport. 

Two new International flights i.e. to Malaysia & Thailand and one additional flight each to Delhi & Hyderabad have been added in the new schedule beginning 1st April. 

Air India Express will soon operate a direct morning flight to Kolkata and a direct flight to Dubai is also expected to start operations as per the APATA.
