Breaches highest ever TEU mark

The Visakha container terminal Pvt Ltd which operates the container terminal at Visakhapatnam port has set a record by handling the highest number of TEUs for the first 9 months of the current fiscal.

The container terminal handled 511000 TEUs for the period April-December 2023 which is said to be the highest ever number of TEUs handled during this period.

Albeit VCT has crossed the half a million TEU mark earlier it has been for the entire fiscal. This is first time it has crossed the half a million TEUs mark in the April-Dec 2023 period. 

VCT has seen its container traffic grow over the past 2 fiscals by handling 527117 TEUs in FY 23 and 511794 TEUs in FY 22.

And with 3 months still left in the current fiscal (FY 24) VCT is well on its path on achieving a record number of TEUs handled.

Some of the leading exports include products like ferro, rice, frozen foods (shrimp etc.) while some of the leading Imports include pharma, agri products.

The Port has withdrawn Priority Berth Hire Charges, extending concession on Vessel Related Charges up to 70% and additional 10% rebate on VRC for encouraging Transhipment.

In addition the terminal operator M/s. JM Baxi and VPA have jointly been conducting customer meets for attracting potential customers. 

A new container Liner Service IFX-2 was also made operational in FY24. 

VCT has been an attractive regional transhipment hub on the East Coast of India with containers from Kolkata/Haldia, Paradip, Chittagong and Yongon getting transhipped at VPA.
