Cochin Shipyard subsidiary bags Rs. 580 Cr. Order

Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has bagged an international order from Wilson Ship owning AS, Norway, for the Design and Construction of 6 No’s. new generation diesel-electric 3800 DWT general cargo vessels. The contract is signed with an option for an additional 8 more such vessels, stated a release.

The “Future proof Dry Cargo Vessel” designed by Conoship International, Netherlands shall be constructed as an environmentally friendly Diesel Electric. 

It would be ready for installing Wind foil units and battery hybrid systems. These vessels are intended for the transport of general cargo in Europe’inland and coastal waters.

Wilson Ship Management AS is headquartered in Bergen, Norway. It is the largest short-sea fleet in Europe and transports about 15 million tonnes of dry cargo across Europe. It has a fleet of around 130 vessels ranging from 1500 to 8500 DWT.

Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) is also active in the markets for harbor tugs, and offshore and fishing vessel segments.

The “Future proof Dry Cargo Vessel” Project is at an approximate cost of Rs. 580 Crores. The first vessel of this Rs. 580 crore contract will be delivered by December 2024 and the remaining vessels will be delivered by March 2026, the release added.
